Why metal is the problem
Ever been told to remove your mask before an MRI? That's the metal. Nearly every mask on the market has a metal nose wire or staples, and MRI facilities don't allow metal in the scan room.
We designed ReadiMask differently. All-polymer construction: polypropylene filter media and a gentle acrylic adhesive. Nothing metallic anywhere in the mask.
Distance isn't an option in this room
Everywhere else, you can manage exposure by managing distance. You pick the off-hour appointment. You wait in the car until they call you. You stand at the far end of the platform.
An imaging appointment doesn't work that way.
Before you ever go into the bore, someone screens you for metal, face to face. Someone explains the sequence. Someone helps you onto the table, positions your head, places the coil, hands you ear protection and the call button. If you're getting contrast, someone starts a line. If you're claustrophobic, someone stays close until you're settled. Afterward, someone helps you back up.
The technologist steps out to the control room for the scan itself. Everything on either side of it happens at arm's length or closer. And the waiting room beforehand is usually full of people who are there for the same reason you are.
None of that is anyone's fault. It's how the care works. It's also why the mask you wear in has to hold its seal without any help from you.
ReadiMask seals to your skin around the full edge of the mask, so air travels through the filter instead of around it. There's no exhalation valve, so the air you breathe out passes through the filter too. With no metal and no straps, it's a mask you can put on in the parking lot and keep on from screening through discharge.
A seal that doesn't depend on straps
Straps and ear loops do more than get in the way when you're lying down. They're what most masks rely on to hold a fit, and they lose it the moment you shift position.

ReadiMask has been independently determined MR Safe under ASTM F2503-26 by MED Institute — an accredited testing organization. It can be worn during an MRI examination in any MR environment. Having the paperwork in hand makes screening simple.

About our certification
ReadiMask was manufactured under our active NIOSH N95 certification (TC-84A-8133), under the strictest manufacturing specifications and quality controls that approval required. We voluntarily withdrew the certification in March 2025 for economic reasons, unrelated to product performance, and today ReadiMask is sold for consumer and voluntary use. We test our inventory quarterly on a PortaCount 8048 and stand behind every mask we ship.
Frequently asked questions
Is ReadiMask still an N95? What is its NIOSH status?
The mask itself hasn't changed. Every ReadiMask we ship today was manufactured while our NIOSH N95 approval (TC-84A-8133) was active, using the same approved materials, manufacturing processes, and quality controls required under that approval. In March 2025, we made the business decision to voluntarily withdraw our NIOSH manufacturing approval, based on the ongoing administrative and compliance requirements of maintaining it, not on any product performance issue, quality concern, or regulatory action.
For personal and voluntary use, including MRI appointments, this changes very little, and you may continue using ReadiMask with confidence. If your employer requires a currently NIOSH-approved respirator as part of an OSHA-compliant respiratory protection program, ReadiMask cannot presently be used to satisfy that requirement while the approval is withdrawn. It is our intention to reinstate NIOSH approval before manufacturing resumes.
NIOSH certifies masks. OSHA regulates workplaces. Which one applies to me?
NIOSH and OSHA do different jobs. NIOSH tests and certifies respirators under its own federal standard, 42 CFR Part 84. It sets the manufacturing and performance standard a mask must meet, and its authority ends there. The "N95" designation itself comes from that standard: a filter class that captures at least 95% of the test aerosol.
OSHA regulates workplaces. Its Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) requires EMPLOYERS to select NIOSH-certified respirators wherever respirator use is required on the job. Because our NIOSH approval was voluntarily withdrawn, ReadiMask can't be used to satisfy that employer requirement. That rule is written for employers and workplaces, and it doesn't govern what you choose to wear in your personal life.
Will my MRI facility allow it?
That's always the facility's decision. ReadiMask has been independently determined MR Safe under ASTM F2503-26 by MED Institute, and contains no metal of any kind. You can print the determination and share it with your technologist ahead of time. Many customers wear theirs through MRIs regularly.
Can I wear it face down or in a head cage?
Yes. There are no straps or hardware, so lying face down doesn't break the seal or press anything into your skin.

Does it fog glasses?
No. The seal across the nose keeps your breath out of your glasses.
Keep one in your bag for scan day, and one for every appointment after that. The best mask is the one you have with you when you need it.
